Entre 2005 et 2007, l’Afijma, en partenariat avec le Dutch Jazz Connection avait monté un programme d’échanges franco-hollandais.
Ce projet à succès, avait permis la venue de 70 formations hollandaises en France et de 50 formations françaises en Hollande.
Désireux de retrouver un partenaire compétent et efficace, et volontaire à l’idée de poursuivre nos efforts en matière d’export, nous avons repris contact avec nos partenaires hollandais : le MuziekCentrum, devenu en 2013 « Dutch Performing Arts ».Nos homologues hollandais se sont ainsi montrés enthousiastes à l’idée de faire revivre ces échanges entre deux des pays les plus porteurs en Europe quant au jazz !

How does it work ?
After making an application to AJC, organisations looking to invite foreign professionals to their event can recover the costs for the professionals’ stay (transport, accommodation and meals). To take advantage of this defrayment of expenses, however, these invitations must be made at “key times” in the French artists’ programming.

AJC’s actions
Since the early 90s AJC, the network work to a better dissemination of French jazz in Europe through numerous actions.
Our network was built around a common desire to participate as widely as possible to the dissemination of artists in France and Europe. It is around this idea that AJC has set up its actions, either they are internal (such as exchanges of co-creation within the network), on a national level such as Jazz Migration or with a European and international scope.
The importance we give to this question of artists mobility meets a critical need of French artists to disseminate more widely, to open their playground and discover other regions and promoters. We have over the years built up a network of European professionals (festivals, clubs, federations, etc.) with which we have developed various tools meant to answer these issues, which are also shared by many European musicians.

The creations and co-productions
As a distribution network for jazz and improvised music, AJC also brings together producers who, as risk takers, contribute to updating repertoires and encouraging artists’ creativity by giving them the opportunity to set up original projects.
The productions and co-productions, created in this way thanks to the financial contribution of the network members, then have a wide range of opportunities to disseminate within AJC as well as outside the network. Each year, about 70 artistic creations and co-productions are promoted by the network, and many of them find potential co-producers within the network, allowing them a wider circulation.

Réseau de diffuseur de jazz et de musiques improvisées, AJC rassemble également des producteurs qui, de part leur prise de risques, contribuent au renouvellement des répertoires et favorisent la créativité des artistes en leur donnant la possibilité de monter des projets inédits.
Les productions et coproductions ainsi créées grâce à l’apport financier des membres du réseau ont ensuite de multiples possibilités de diffusion au sein d’AJC mais également en dehors du réseau. Chaque année, environ 70 créations et coproductions sont ainsi portées par les membres du réseau et nombre d’entre elles trouvent au sein du réseau de potentiels coproducteurs, leur permettant une plus large diffusion.

Studies
AJC have always ensured to work on different studies and surveys in the jazz world.
In this way, a study on the economics of festivals was carried out in 2000, and a survey is also in progress regarding the question of “Jazz” artists’ residences in France among AJC members. This desire is thus shared with our various partners.Together with France Festivals, Zone Franche and Futurs Composés, we created the National Coordination of Festivals in 2009, with which we participated in Festudy.
We also joined in an informal National Federation of Festivals to discuss the economics of festivals.
We participated in the working group, created by the Ministery of Culture in 2011 to discuss the french jazz world in all its componets.
We also participated alongside with 19 professionnals networks in « L’appel de Nantes », questionning the role and work that need to be done in the following years.
